Welcome to the Middle School West Activities and Club page! Here is a list of some of the opportunities available to students at West.


Jazz Club

We play music in a variety of styles including Jazz, Rock and Latin.  This is a stage band setting.  Open to members of band and others with special permission from sponsor.

Runs: All Year

Meets: Tuesdays, 2:30-3:45 in the Band room, with some extra practices to prepare for performances

Yearbook Staff

The Yearbook Staff is responsible for creating the layout for the FTMS West yearbook.  Students learn skills related to journalism, photography, and graphic design.  We also write articles that are published on the school’s Facebook page.

Sponsor: Mr. E. Scott

Runs: October-February

Meets: 2 days per week in Media Center Computer Lab

How to join: Application process begins in September/October. There is a limit of 15 members


Academic Team

We compete against schools in Marion County in academic trivia and current events.

Sponsor: Mrs. Bogart

Runs: End of September-Mid February

Meets: Wednesday meets and practices, 2:50-3:45

How to join: Come to call out meeting in the fall. Club Fee: $105


Robotics Team

6th – 8th grade students will design, build, drive, and compete with a robot against other middle and elementary schools all over Indiana.  The teams (3 of them) will design and build their own robot to fit the challenge for the season (changes every year).  These teams build character, team building, moral, and STEM initiative in middle school students.

Runs:August-February, Worlds Competition in April

Meets: Tuesday-Thursday, 2:50-4:30 in room 504 or 517

How to join: At the beginning of the school year there is a call-out meeting where Sponsor explains the game and goal of the season.  You will receive an application to fill out and return by a certain date.  three judges then review the applicants and choose the best fit for the 3 teams.


Peer Buddies

Peer buddies work with the CIP students to help build positive relationships with typical peers. Buddies assist the CIP students with projects in the classroom as well as work on firendship/social skills.

Runs: Runs all year but changes 3 times a year

Meets: Meets in the CIP classrooms during PRIDE

How to join: 7th and 8th graders may get an application in the guidance office


Awesome Authors Club

Do you like pens (or pencils) and paper?  Have you ever wanted to try creative writing?  Come hang out with other student writers each week as we talk about writing, share our stories, and work towards our goal of creating pieces we can publish!

Sponsor: Mr Lawson+Ms. Belting

Runs: We’re brand new! Currently meeting until the end of the year.

Meets: Thursdays in the Media Center, 2:15-3:15

How to join: Get a permission slip from Mr. Lawson (room 111) or Ms. Belting (319)


Young Hoosier Book Award Club

The YHBA Club is open to all grades. Students have the opportunity to read, discuss and write book reviews for the 2015-2016 YHBA nominees.

Meets: WHITE Mondays, PRIDE, Media Center

PRIDE Booktalk Club

PRIDE Booktalk Club was formed to create a culture of reading at Middle School West which promotes enthusiasm for reading and a desire for life-long reading and to provide enrichment in the form of Book Club Discussion Groups in Grades 6, 7, & 8.
